Basically, you’re dealing with a Bluetooth speaker, power bank and solar phone charger in one.
Solarbank Boombox review
Let’s start with what you’ll notice first, the looks. The Solarbank Boombox is a cool looking solar Bluetooth speaker, a category of solar devices that have gained popularity in the last years. The design is slick, in neat black with bright blue lights as charging indicators and around the main button. On top of that, it just looks sturdy. You feel directly that it is made to be used often. In fact, it is shock resistant, waterproof, and even sandproof. There’s no need to worry about breaking it.
With dimensions of 6.2×3.5×2 inches (16x9x5cm) you can easily take it with you in any backpack, Solgaard has made sure it would fit perfectly in their Lifepack Backpack. As Bluetooth speakers go, the Solarbank Boombox is of an average size, despite its 10,000 mAh battery. This is enough power to listen to almost 100 hours of music, when the sun isn’t shining.
And this is where the beauty of the Solarbank Boombox really shows itself. Having your speaker out in the sun for 1 hour, means you can listen to music for 2 hours. So while you are listening to music in the sun, the battery of the powerbank is recharging. You could also connect your phone to it so its battery gets some juice. 10,000 mAh means you can charge your phone fully up to 4 times. Oh, and did I mention already that you can charge your mobile device wirelessly? If that is too fancy, you can still charge 2 phones at once using the USB ports. And thanks to the USB-C port you can even give your laptop some extra battery life.
Power efficient
As you can see, the Solar Boombox is power efficient. It uses less battery than it charges while playing music, and a dead phone is fully recharged in only 4 hours. This makes it ideal for a nice day to the beach, or during a hike with your friends.
But even in the back of your backpack you can go on your daily commute without having to worry about running out of battery for a while. As any powerbank, there is the option to charge it via USB, in case there really isn’t any sun out there for a while. Unlike most other powerbanks, you can also charge the Boombox wirelessly using the homebase.
But how does it sound?
So it looks nice and it does its job charging phones, which is great. But what about the music? Solgaard has recently released a v3 of the Solarbank Boombox and they have added a bit more bass in that box, and with a bit more I mean a lot more. The v2 of this speaker has 40% more overall power and a whopping 60% more base than its predecessor. And you can tell!
The music sounds crisp, like coming from a proper speaker. There’s no hollow sounds, or muffled beats. Everything you play is reproduced perfectly by the speaker. If you’re listening to your music at home, make sure to place the speaker on the homebase. This will enhance the sound thanks to the acoustic chamber built in the base. You don’t need massive audio speakers in your house anymore if you have this neat little device.
The Solarbank Boombox is a great way to contribute to a greener planet by using solar energy. Solgaard went the extra mile though and made sure that their products are made sustainably. You really don’t have to justify buying this great gadget because everything it does, it does great.
